Gingue Brothers Dairy and Fairfax Reacreation Path

Today we visited Gingue Brothers Dairy. We arrive and the unique smell filled the van, and then some man came to explain us all the process and the environment of the milk production. I learned that the cows must be treated in a certain way and it must be really carefully. Also that a cow produce ten gallons per day. They can milk fifteen cows at one time. It surprise me the amount of stool that the cows produce.

I think it is a good business and they really care about their cows, the competition with other industries is really hard so they need to give their best. 

At the Fairfax Recreation Path we had a great time. We first arrive and ate some cake with strawberries and whip cream and then we went to the lake and spent there a long time. I had a really good time and I would be glad to go again.

Farming in Mexico!

 

 

Corn, or maize, matters to Mexico more than to any other country in the world. It is indigenous to Mexico, and has been cultivated there for some 6,000 years. The country is home to more varieties of maize than any other. It remains the staple of the Mexican diet, in everything from tortillas and tacos to tamales and soup. 

 

It have been proven that the average Mexican gets 40% of his protein intake from corn, of which he eats between 250 and 400 grams (8-14 ounces) a day. It is also a cultural staple. Many Mexican Indians in southern states such as Oaxaca believe that the maize plant represents the origin of life itself.

 

In Mexico the main crop grown is Corn, it is also the staple crop. Other subsistence crops include beans, barley, hay, potatoes, sugar-cane and fruits such as oranges, apples, grapes, tangerines among others. They engage mainly in horticulture, tropical fruits and vegetables for export. My favorite I think is the tangerine because when it's sweet is the sweetest fruit you could ever eat.

 

One of my favorite mexican food is the chile relleno (stuffed chile) wich is a green Chile stuffed with cheese and fried in eggs and can be served with a tomato sauce.

• Cows don't sweat.
• Although milk is creamy it is made of 85%-95% water. The other percentage is nutritious vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates and fat.
• On average their cows produce about 80 pounds of milk each day.
• They milk their cows 3 times a day, at 8 hour intervals.
• Cows consume anywhere from 30-50 gallons of water each day.

COTS

This thursday I visited COTS shelter for homeless people in Burlington, VT. At first I was surprised because I imagined it so different, like it was going to smell bad or everything was going to be untidy but it is really nice place if you don't have anywhere else to go. You have a bed, a shower, a bathroom, they give you food and you can sleep safe. I was impressed that it was so small because there is a lot of people without a place to sleep and they can't cover them all but it's nice to know that they are actually doing what it's their hands. But I was really happy to see that they are really doing something about it even if it's not as much as needed it's still something.
